YA-An excellent resource. Lefebure capably weaves details on British life with biographical material on Hardy and an analysis of his work. Topics are presented on double-page spreads and are accompanied by numerous period photographs, reproductions of artwork, and stills from movies based on his books. Not all of the photographs are always easily identified, but they do make the book visually appealing. Topics are presented chronologically as they relate to the writer and include discussion of the arts, the Titanic, World War I, and birth control. Although coverage may seem superficial, its breadth makes it a valuable purchase that provides reliable information for world history and English students.-Claudia Moore, W. T.
