"On October 14, 1910 the International Longshoremen's Association became organized labour on Prince Rupert's waterfront. Throughout its labour history Prince Rupert longshoremen have handled lumber, grain, supler, copper concentrates, frozen fish, ammunition, steel, project cargo wood pellets pulp and coal. On May 8, 1945 the I.L.A. signed the union charter and became the International Longshoremen's and Warehousemen's Union Local 505. ILWU Canada celebrates those before us, told by its members today, and their visions for the future of the union tomorrow."-- back cover.
