Summary:
The author, one of the original members of the North-West Mounted Police, was appointed to take charge of a detachment detailed for duty along the C.P.R. construction line in British Columbia. He was also responsible for building a post in the Kootenays in 1887, and was later in command of the Force in the Yukon and British Columbia during the Klondike gold rush. The book briefly covers these activities.
