Wanda Jackson, early female rockabilly star and 2009 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, covers both familiar and new terrain on The Party Ain't Over. The careful listener will hear the years in Wanda's voice--it remains strong but her obvious maturity and professionalism occasionally stand in contrast to the unbridled rock-and-roll intensity of the band arrangements. That was probably part of producer and guitarist Jack White's plan. The elder music statesman (or woman in this case) produced by a young upstart is a trope these days; in this case, the formula still rocks! (CLHD) Copyright CD HotList 2012.
