Sternwheelers on the Skeena

Armstrong, Cliff (author.).

Summary: "From 1892 to 1912, sternwheelers plied the Skeena River from Port Essington to Hazelton. The Hudson's Bay Company first used them to supply its interior trading posts. Robert Cunningham, Port Essington's founder, ran his own boats to compete with the HBC. The peak of sternwheeler traffice came with the construction of the Skeena line of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railyway, but ironically, when completion of the railway meant the end of the sternwheelers on the Skeena. Sternwheelers on the Skeena details the vessels that navigated the Skeena River, and the work they did."--
